How DOMOPTI Boosts Home Energy Efficiency and reducing costs by 30%
Less waste, more savings: DOMOPTI reduces household energy costs by up to 30%.
As more households adopt photovoltaic panels and electric vehicles managing energy efficiently has become a challenge. A recent study has explored how a "Smart Energy Management System" (EMS) can optimize home energy use to save money and reduce waste.
The experiment
The researchers tested a sophisticated two-layer control system on 396 real-world scenarios. These homes were equipped with:
• Photovoltaic (PV) panels to generate green energy.
• Home batteries (BESS) for storage.
• Electric Vehicles (EVs), testing both standard charging and bidirectional charging (where the car can actually give power back to the house).
The "Brain" of the House
The system works in two steps:
- 1. Planning Ahead: It looks at weather forecasts and energy prices for the next day to create a "strategy."
- 2. Real-Time Action: It makes quick adjustments throughout the day based on what is actually happening.
Key Findings
- Huge Savings Using this smart system saved homeowners over 20% on their annual energy costs compared to traditional methods. In some cases, savings reached up to €900 per year..
- The Power of Your Car: using an EV as a " mobile battery" (bidirectional charging) added an extra 10–15% in savings. This was even more effective for people who work from home, as the car is plugged in and available more often.
- The Battery Paradox: the study found that buying a dedicated home battery is still not very economically beneficial at current prices, as the smart management of the EV and PV panels provides most of the value.
